In awe, the nation watched the videos on the policemen raid on the San Francisco de Macoris judicial jail to release a colleague who earlier that day had been ordered to three months of preventive custody for murder. The police agent Marino Alonzo Torres is accused of the death of Puro Enmanuel Diaz Lopez on 3 June. The raid of the judiciary by the local policemen was captured by telenorrd.com.do and the local press and became the talk of the day yesterday afternoon. The San Francisco de Macoris police version is that Diaz Lopez had died of a stray bullet during a gunfight in San Martin neighborhood.

In response to the raid, Police commander for the Northeastern Region, General Miguel de la Cruz said that the policemen had acted on their own accord and that the police chiefs did not back the actions.

Regis Victorio, attorney for San Francisco de Macoris, said that the police agents said that the agent Marino Alonzo Torres was removed with the policemen arguing he would be taken to special operations jail in Santo Domingo.

Spokesman for the National Police Maximo Baez Aybar announced the commander had been removed and the new commander would be Brigade General Francisco Jose Martinez Rodriguez. General de la Cruz was appointed liaison between the National Police and the Armed Forces. The deputy commander Jose Damian Pujols was also removed to be replaced by Colonel Julio Sanchez Peguero. Baez Aybar said that all agents participating in the raid are under investigation.
