A large fire has been burning for three days in the pine forests in Bahoruco. It started in Las Mercedes and has been blamed on Haitians who set fire to the undergrowth. Brigades have been sent to the area to make pathways and stop the spread of the fire, however they said they have been unable to stop it and it is still burning fiercely amongst the pine trees.
This fire is the first this year in the Bahoruco mountain range.
