On Saturday evening, the earth shook in Barahona where a 5.1 magnitude on the Richter Scale earthquake was felt by the population. The Seismological Institute of the UASD said the earthquake occurred two kilometers from the town of Cabral, and that neither damages nor aftershocks were reported. The earthquake was reported to have a depth of 19 kms.
On 1 January, 5 kms from Bani, Peravia a 5.5 magnitude earthquake was felt also in the southwest.
