President Leonel Fernandez and First Lady and Vice President-elect Margarita Cedeno met with Jean Louis Debre, the president of the Constitutional Council of France in Paris last week to discuss cooperation agreements for the Constitutional Court, the National School of the Magistracy and the Supreme Court of Justice, Dominican ambassador in France Laura Faxas told Listin Diario. The possibility of internships for Dominican law students was also discussed during the meetings in Paris. Faxas said that France is interested in promoting debates on social issues like surrogacy, stem cells and non-marital unions, and rule of the law in the Dominican Republic and the Central American and Caribbean region. The Constitutional Council (Conseil Constitutionnel) is the highest constitutional authority in France.
During their visit to Paris, Fernandez and Cedeno also met with Irina Bokova, director general of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
