The Ministry of Education has released some of the results of the recent Standardized National Tests and reports that this year's results were 5% less satisfactory than last year's and 1% less than 2010. According to El Caribe, only 80% of the 144,570 students who took the eighth grade tests achieved a passing grade. Over 28,000 will have a second chance to pass the parts of the exams that they failed at the first attempt. Ancell Scheker, Educational Quality Evaluation Department director at the Ministry of Education, described the results as "similar" to previous years.
The second round of exams is scheduled to start on 31 July and runs until 3 August. The results of these tests are available on the Ministry of Education webpage: www.minerd.gob.do (http://www.minerd.gob.do)
