More than 30 policemen are in detention for alleged insubordination in San Francisco de Macoris. This occurred when the group allegedly tried to free private Marino Alfonso Torres minutes after a judge had ordered him to be detained for three months of preventive custody. The police agents are being held in the high security jail of Special Operations in Manoguayabo in Santo Domingo West.

A source very familiar with the events told Diario Libre: "The group of policemen left headquarters to take some money to private Torres after they heard that he was being sent to preventive custody as a coercive measure," but then, "they found out that there had been attempts to kill him in jail, so the group decided to take their comrade back to headquarters as a way of protecting his life." This same source said that at no time did General Raul Miguel de la Cruz Reyna order this action. Yesterday, Monday 9 July, Police spokesman General Maximo Baez Aybar said that investigations by a high-level commission have not ended and he said that they would follow the commission's recommendations. Nevertheless, he added that before this, the recommendations have to go to the Superior Police Council, because that is the highest police body.
