An impressive exhibition of something so mundane that no one had noticed it before is on at the Centro Leon in Santiago. It's all about brooms! "Stories the broom can tell: everyday Dominican culture" will be open at the Santiago cultural center until 30 September.
The idea came after the Centro Leon received a donation of 33 brooms from anthropologist Leonardo Ivan Dominguez.
The brooms reflect the detailed work of many artisans who produce them to make a living. They are evidence of creativity and innovative approaches and present the constant changes of Dominican society, where the modern and the traditional struggle to keep their place in time. The exhibition also shows other objects of everyday Dominican culture from all around the country.
