View Full Version : National Assembly proclaims Danilo Medina as President-elect

Yesterday, Tuesday July 10, in a session lasting almost 2 hours and attended by 30 senators and 155 deputies of 278 legislators, the National Assembly proclaimed President-elect Danilo Medina and Vice President-elect Margarita Cedeno for the period 2012-2016. The four-year term begins 16 August.

The Assembly was presided by the president of the Senate Reinaldo Pared Perez (PLD-National District) and the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Abel Martinez (PLD-National District), and the proclamation was unanimously accepted.

The proclamation was made, according to the Constitution and then they were officially declared as President and Vice President, followed by the reading of the final results of the elections. These were: the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) and allies 2,323,463 votes for 51.21% of the votes and the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) and allies 2,130,189 votes for 46.95%.

On the day of the proclamation, both Medina and Cedeno were out of the country. Medina was in Brazil and Cedeno accompanying her husband, President Leonel Fernandez in Europe.
