The Central Bank has announced that inflation for June was 0.21% compared to May, with year to date inflation at 0.89%. The annualized rate from June 2011 to 2012 stands at 2.71%.

They said that this figure was well within the guidelines for inflation as laid down by the Monetary Program of the Central Bank and would enable them to maintain more flexibility in the implementation of monetary policy. For 2012 the aim is to keep inflation under 5.5%.

The report stated that the underlying inflation rate for the last 12 months was 3.36%, and that the index with the greatest impact in June was the Food and Non Alcoholic Beverage Index that had increased by 1.31%. Housing and Transport indices had decreased by 0.81% and 0.53% respectively.

The Food and Non Alcoholic Beverage Index showed an increase due to rising prices of the following components: fresh chicken (14.01%), yucca (9.79%), onions (15.41%), variegated beans (3.57%), peppers (6.37%), celery and cilantro (5.34%), purified water (1.05%) and sour oranges (16.74%).
