JetBlue Airways announced it will begin flights into the El Catey International Airport (AZS) in Samana starting 14 November 2012. A roundtrip promotional fair of US$369 is available online.
Fabeth Martinez, executive director of the Association of Hotels and Tourism of Samana (AHETSA) credited the new flight to joint efforts of the association, the Tourism Cluster, Aerodom and the Ministry of Tourism. "The start of JetBlue's operations on 14 November 2012 opens the doors of the United States to Samana," she announced.
This will be JetBlue's sixth airport of arrival in the Dominican Republic. JetBlue at present is the leading air carrier into the DR, displacing American Airlines.
JetBlue will fly twice a week from New York's JFK on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The flight has yet to receive government approval. The flight will be the only regular service between Samana and the United States.
In the Dominican Republic, JetBlue also serves La Romana, Puerto Plata, Punta Cana, Santiago and Santo Domingo airports with service to Boston, Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood, New York, Orlando and San Juan.
