Dominican Melky Cabrera won the Most Valuable Player distinction in Major League Baseball's All Star Game on Tuesday, 10 July. Cabrera singled during a five-run first inning against Justin Verlander and launched a two-run homer in the fourth against Matt Harrison for the 8-0 win of the National League.
Cabrera is the San Francisco Giant's sixth All-Star Game MVP, tying them with the Orioles for the most in baseball. He is having a good year with the Giants, hitting .353 prior to the game with a National League high of 119 hits.
His mom was in the stadium.
