Minister of Labor Francisco Dominguez Brito met with the head of the Social Security Commission of the Senate on Wednesday, 11 July to ask for the ratification of International Labor Organization Agreement 189 on decent working conditions for domestic workers. The agreement is the first international labor regulation aimed at improving working conditions for tens of millions of domestic workers around the world. The agreement says that domestic workers will have the same basic rights as other workers, including workdays with a set number of hours, a limit to payments in kind, clear information on employment conditions, collective bargaining and other items. One of the issues mentioned by Senator Sanchez Roa was access to Social Security for domestic workers.
