The Central Romana Corporation has handed its workers and employees more than RD$700 million in bonus money, which corresponds to the 2011-2012 harvest. This is the largest sum of money that the company has ever delivered for bonuses in its entire history. The amount, which was over RD$70 million above the amount handed out last year, went to the employees who work in the factory part of the sugar mill as well as the field workers in the farm area.

The economic incentive is one the benefits that Central Romana gives its employees, including health coverage, education and housing programs and food for the workers and their families as part of their corporate social responsibility plan.

The company has built schools for employees' children in the farming areas, and they have built and delivered more than 1,500 houses to their employees in the urban area as part of their housing program. In addition, Central Romana runs an extensive health program, which was strengthened with the construction of the new and modern Medical Center, and the medical sub-station in the farming areas, supported by the Mobile Medical Units that provide free services on a daily basis. The company finished the harvest and they had produced 430,627 short tons of sugar, of which 183,488 was refined sugar. (Yesterday, Wednesday 11 July, sugar for October delivery was 22.89 cents a pound).
