The director of the Supervisory Office of Public Works of the Presidency (OISOE), Luis Sifres is pledging to pay all outstanding invoices to contractors before Danilo Medina takes office on 16 August.

He says that he is open to dialogue and promised to pay all debts cent by cent and is opposed to the stance being taken by contractors who are threatening legal action.

President Leonel Fernandez will inaugurate 25 more projects before 16 August, said Sifres.

Sifres added that the Fernandez administration has already paid 95% of its debts, and the rest will be covered with the approval of the Complementary Budget that includes a RD$4.6 billion for debt payment. The Chamber of Deputies passed the Complementary Budget bill yesterday, Thursday 12 July for an additional RD$71.46 billion and approved the government issue of US$500 million in sovereign bonds to subsidize the electricity sector. The vote was 102 votes in favor, 29 against and 11 abstentions of 178 deputies. The bill had already passed in the Senate. It will now return to the Presidency to be signed into law.
