View Full Version : Dominican men to Pan Am Cup volleyball semifinal

The Dominican men's team has made it to the semifinals of the 7th Pan American Men's Volleyball Cup being played at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center Volleyball Pavilion. The Dominicans defeated Mexico 23-25, 25-19, 25-21, and 30-28 in a very exciting match. Best players were Elvis Contreras, Jose Caceres and Elnis Palomino.

The DR will now play in the semifinals with the United States, Argentina and Brazil. Friday's semifinals feature Brazil against Argentina (5pm) followed by the match between United States and Dominican Republic (7pm).

The 7th Men's Pan American Volleyball Cup is being played in Santo Domingo at the Palacio Ricardo (Gioriver) Arias of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.

Teams from Argentina (FIVB-ranked 8th), Canada (18th), Trinidad (33rd), Brazil (1st), Mexico (23rd), Venezuela (16th), the United States (6th) and the Dominican Republic (ranked 42nd) have competed.

The Dominican team is made up of Kelvin Campechano, Elnis Palomino, Elvis Contreras, Wilfrido Fernandez, Edwin Peguero, Pedro Luis Garcia, Eduardo Concepcion, Francisco Abreu, Jose Caceres, Jose Castro, Enmanuel Lara and Henry Tapia. The coach is Cuban Osiel Vasquez.

The semifinals and finals are to be played on 13-14 July. Tickets to see four games cost RD$325 and can be purchased at Uepa Tickets at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center or from Supermercados Nacional and Jumbo.

The eight-team competition will qualify the best-ranked team, not already included in the 2013 FIVB World League, to the 2012 WL Qualification Tournament later this year.
