Enthusiasm is high for the Dominican community in the United States milestone mass celebration on Washington D.C.'s National Monument on 28 July.
The "First 100,000 Dominican Gathering" will highlight the contributions of Dominicans throughout US history. To coincide with the celebration, DANR is publishing a documentary known as the Dominican List that features the achievements of Dominicans in the United States over five decades.
It also promises that a good dose of merengue and bachata will take over the grounds of the Washington Monument. Merengue star and long-time US resident Milly Quezada, winner of the Billboard Prizes, Premios Lo Nuestro and a Latin Grammy will be one of the key performers at the event.
The event, which is being organized by the Dominican American National Roundtable (DANR), has the main purpose of celebrating and acknowledging the presence and contributions of Dominicans to the United States. DANR president Maria Teresa Montilla says the event is important for highlighting the contributions of Dominicans in the US. DANR is a non-profit organization that advocates for Dominican and Latino political and social empowerment.
