Last night the Central Electoral Board (JCE) rejected a proposal to allow the driving licenses to be used as an official identification document.
A JCE spokesman, Felix Reyna, said the JCE was in charge of personal identification as mandated by the Constitution.
He said that if the decision was taken to allow the driving license to be used for official identification purposes as happens in other countries, it would endanger all of the advances that have been made with regards to the national identity system.
