Priest Francis Javer of La Caleta, Santo Domingo province, said yesterday, Wednesday 18 July that Haitians should be on their knees to ask Dominicans for forgiveness for victimizing Dominicans during 22 years of occupation (1822-1844). He was speaking at an inaugural ceremony for apartment complexes and a school in Boca Chica.

Diario Libre quotes the priest as saying that in his opinion, the years of Haitian occupation set back Dominican development. Javer also did some campaigning for President Leonel Fernandez at the blessing. He said he expects the President to return to government. Javer spoke in a Spanish that was not so easily understood, reports the newspaper. "God bless each of us and give strength and health to our President," said Javer. The priest, who is of Haitian descent, is in charge of the parish of Boca Chica.

The residential projects are Invi-Progreso Boca Chica with 80 units at a cost of RD$70 million) and Invi-Progreso Guerra with 80 units at a cost of RD$69 million. The two-bedroom apartments are 40 square meters.

The Boca Chica school, Escuela Basica Profesora Samira Massit de Hanes in La Caleta, was built at a cost of RD$21,926,708.
