The Dominican Republic's women's volleyball team defeated Peru on Wednesday, 18 July to earn a ticket to the semi-finals of the XI Pan Am Volleyball Cup and to the 2013 FIVB World Grand Prix. The DR overpowered Peru by posting 25-17, 25-17 and 25-20, showing it is in shape. The games serve to prepare the Dominican team for competing in the London Olympics.
Annerys Vargas (16 points) topped the Dominican side while Bethania De la Cruz, Lisvel Eve and Prisilla Rivera contributed 12, 10 and 9 points respectively. Carla Rueda emerged as the top-scorer on Peru's side with 13 points.
"It was a good game but we have to put it in the past and prepare for tomorrow's match," Prisilla Rivera was happy about the match result, but she looked more concerned about the next match against United States. The second semi-final match on Thursday will feature Dominican Republic and the United States.
