Film companies Palmera Pictures and The Green Star Films have signed an agreement to make twenty films in the DR at a cost of RD$2 billion. The deal will represent a boost for the emerging Dominican film industry.

Ximo Perez from The Green Star Films said that it was one of the leading film production companies in Spain and that they had chosen the DR for their productions over the next five years.

He said that after an exhaustive search throughout Latin America, they had chosen Palmera Pictures in the Dominican Republic for its creative financial capacity, production and international distribution.

The president of Palmera Pictures said that via its distribution arm in the United States, they were looking for co-productions in the US market and to expand and exploit Ibero-American films.

The director of the Export and Investment Center in the Dominican Republic (CEI-RD), Eddy Martinez, said that the country was ideal for film production, not only for its natural charm, service infrastructure and specialized technology, but also due to the state support the film making industry received from the General Film Department and the Film Law.
