A tropical wave moving over from Puerto Rico in the east has caused short but intense rain showers nationwide. The forecast is for rains to continue through Saturday. The unusual weather has lowered the hot summer heat, but the gray clouds and the rains are affecting the Optimist World Championships taking place in Boca Chica. The organizers have decided to hold the races in the rain given the weather forecast, creating new challenges for the youngsters.

So far, Samuel Jiun Jie Neo, Elisa Yukie Yokoyama and Jessica Kai Ling Goh from Singapore are leading the competitors. They are followed by Jose Pedro Chifflet from Uruguay, Max Clapp from Great Britain, Wolf Van Cauwenberghe from Switzerland, Bart Lambriex from the Netherlands, Andrea Totis from Italy, Gabriel Elstrodt from Brazil and Sven Stevanovic from Croatia. The Dominican competitors were 103rd, 157th, 186th, 195th and 208th of 230 sailors.
