The best paying jobs in the Dominican Republic are in the Dominican government. Salaries and benefits in government are the highest, but now a bill in Congress could set a cap to what an executive can make in government.

The president of the social security commission of the Senate Jose Maria Sosa said that it was decided that all institutions would be included in the Bill of Public Wages under study in Congress. There is talk that a maximum wage of RD$400,000 would be set for the President, and there have been agreements in representation fees, expenses and payments for cell phones, credit card payments and fuel that would be established in the law.

Institutions such as Central Bank, Reservas Bank, Chamber of Accounts, Agriculture Bank, Superintendence of Banks, Department of Taxes, Department of Customs, Armed Forces and the Police have requested being excluded from the wage limits. Several government institutions argue that legally they are autonomous in setting their wages, and that the high wages make it possible for them to attract the best people.

There are expectations the legislative period that ends its regular session this week could be extended through 16 August to approve the bill prior to the start of government.
