The National District judge Alejandro Vargas has sent the merengue singer Antonio Piter de la Rosa (Omega) to the Model Jail in San Pedro de Macoris for three months on remand, charged again with violence towards a woman.

He also ordered the public prosecutors office to arrest the complainant Yuly Lopez, saying that he considered she had committed perjury in her statement to the court whilst under oath.

There have been various significant milestones in this case. The National District prosecutor Yeni Berenice Reynoso said that the merengue singer was following a self- destructive way of life and that he should be sent to a rehabilitation center. She also felt he was potentially capable of femicide.

The young woman who complained about Omega's supposed aggression, spoke under oath in front of the court and the judge warned her that if she was lying she would go to jail. In the recess, the young woman then managed to flee so an arrest warrant was ordered on the basis of perjury due to inconsistencies in her statement.
