The Ministry of Foreign Relations announced that the Dominican Republic has established diplomatic ties with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the world's biggest oil exporter. Both countries said the move was "guided by a mutual willingness to strengthen ties and expand cooperation." The diplomatic agreement is "the first step towards prosperous cooperation in political, economic, commercial and cultural realms."
Minister of Foreign Relations Carlos Morales Troncoso signed for the Dominican Republic, and Ambassador Abdallah Al-Mouallimi for Saudi Arabia. The signing of the agreement took place at the conference room of the Permanent Mission of Saudi Arabia in the United Nations.
The two governments need now to appoint their respective ambassadors to the other country.
