Sailors from Singapore, Elisa Yukie Yokoyama, Samuel Jiun Jie Neo, Jessica Kai Ling Goh and Jiayi Loh overmatched all others in the IODA Optimist World Championship that took place at the Santo Domingo Yacht Club and the waters of Andres, Boca Chica. The United States team of Ivan Shetopalov, Nick Muller, Romain Screve and Will Logue was second. Holland placed third, with good performances by Bart Lambriex, Philip Meijer, Scipio Houtman and Richard Schuurmans.
The best performing local sailor was Maria Justina Pacheco (75). Others representing the DR and how they placed: Maria Paz Pacheco (132) Celeste Lugtmeijer (161), Natalie Nordbruch (169), Juan Pacheco (190) of 230 competitors from 52 countries.
