Rector Mateo Aquino Febrillet says that around 9,000 students of 180,000 students at the state university, UASD have been registered for more than eight years. He said the university will now determine who gets to stay. Ambiorix Rosario, president of the Federation of Students (FED), made the point that the university course offering does not make it easy for students to expedite their careers. Rosario is an extreme case of extending a career. He has been studying medicine for 20 years at the university.
Minister of Superior Education Ligia Amada Melo recently urged the university to purge the university of professional students, or those who have other agendas in the UASD and not necessarily their chosen careers.
