The Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel) 1,413,695 children and minors are connecting to the Internet from their homes in the Dominican Republic. Of those 90% use the Internet and more than 60% chat on line daily.
Moreover, 3 out of 5 children on line are happy to share personal information about themselves and their families.
Indotel alerts parents of the dangers of sexual predators and pedophiles that are lurking on the Internet.
Recently, it was known that two minors were seduced via Facebook and had sexual relations with their neighbor which confirms that in the majority of cases children are victims of abuse by family members or people close to them.
Psychologist Secundino Palacios told El Dia that sexual predators who use social networks to seduce children are "emotionally stunted" and that social networks have an enormous power over young people, making them especially vulnerable.
He asked parents to talk to their children to warn them of the dangers.
