Rescue teams recovered the bodies of two of the three missing fisherman near the coast of Haiti, yesterday, 26 July 2012. They had gone missing having left to go fishing from Morro beach in Montecristi. A third man was rescued alive but is in a critical condition in hospital.
The dead men were identified as Deivy Peralta, aged 40 from Santiago and Martires Palomino, who was the captain of the boat and from Montecristi. The survivor is Andres Marte, aged 35 also from Santiago.
The head of Civil Defense in Montecristi said that the men had gone fishing even though they knew that the boat's engine had mechanical problems.
The Navy reported the men did not register their trip nor comply with safety rules and ignored the official weather warning that small boats should not take to sea due to bad weather.
