Juan Hernandez, the head of the Department of Taxes (DGII), increased the amount of taxes Dominicans pay 313% since 2004 during his present consecutive eight-year term at the DGII.
During the international workshop "Experiences of the Control Progress in Tax Administrations of the Region," sponsored by the Department of Taxes (DGII) on occasion of its 15th anniversary, DGII director Juan Hernandez said that the department has increased revenues, going from RD$60 billion in 2004, at the start of the eight-year administration of President Fernandez, to RD$248 billion in 2011, for a 313% growth.
But Hernandez feels Dominicans do not pay enough taxes. He proposes more taxes for the farm sectors, free zones and mining sectors.
