The First Festival del Merengue y Ritmos Caribenos will take place on 4 and 5 August at Plaza Juan Baron on the Malecon seafront boulevard in the capital. The festival commemorates the anniversary of the city of Santo Domingo.
On Saturday, the show starts at 6pm and finishes at 2am. On Sunday, 5 August dancing starts at 6pm and ends at midnight.
There will be live performances of merengue, bachata, salsa, regional Caribbean music, reggaetton, reggae and urban music.
Booked for the event are Milka la Mas Dura, Krispy, Sexappeal, El Grupo Bonye, el Chaval de la Bachata, Vakero, Fernando Villalona, Crazy & Carlitos (Los TekeTeke), Alex Matos, Melymel, Vicente Garcia.
The festival is free, sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism and Brugal rum company.
