Yesterday, Tuesday 31 July, factories affiliated to the Association of Manufacturers of Sausages and Meat Processors hosted a visit by a commission of Haitian legislators and government officials. Haiti called for a ban on processed meat imports after the DR ProConsumidor consumer protection agency released findings of a report that said most factories fell below minimal standards. Their mission is to check the quality standards used by the industry.

The commission, which will be in the DR until tomorrow, Thursday 2 August is made up of deputies Bertrand Sinal, president of the commission, Fanel Salomon, vice president; Worms Perrilus, from External Relations; Johnson Dieujuste, president of the commission of agriculture and environment, and Maguerite Vincent, an agricultural microbiologist from Haiti.

The main sausage manufacturer in the country, Induveca, received the press yesterday at its factory in La Vega to explain the sausage production process and to show their quality standards including their international ISO certification.
