Despite reservations by jurists like Adriano Miguel Tejada, who expressed serious concerns in his AM editorial in Diario Libre yesterday, Wednesday 1 August, going so far as to cite Constitutional conflicts, the legislative proposal for the regulation of State salaries will be introduced again, after the bill died in the ordinary session of the legislature. It could be heard in the Senate this afternoon, with additional changes to those presented by the Social Security Commission that studied the legislation. In a meeting of high-level officials, there was an agreement that the law should regulate all of the institutions with the exception of the Central Bank for a two-year period, after which the bank would enter into a process of regulation.

The salaries of the heads of the branches of the state would have a ceiling of RD$450,000 (per month), which does not mean that this would be the salary to be applied immediately. The ceilings for Ministers would be RD$300,000. Moreover, the law will include severe sanctions for officials who do not comply with the dispositions of the law, which will include impeachment, destitution and the restitution of the funds taken in violation of the law.
