Yesterday, Wednesday 1 August the ministries of Industry and Commerce and Public Health reiterated the "excellent quality" of the salami that is produced in the country by the factories that have their health registry, and thus continue their call to the public to consume the product. This stance was agreed upon by Bautista Rojas Gomez and Manuel Garcia Arevalo, the ministers of Public Health and Industry and Commerce, during a joint press conference with the National Consumer Rights Protection Institute (ProConsumidor), the General Directorate of Quality Control (Digenor) and representatives of the Dominican Republic Industrial Association of the (AIRD).
The meeting was called in order to "show support for all of the actions that guarantee adequate standards of quality for national food products, while recognizing ProConsumidor's contributions for consumers and the development of a culture of responsible consumption." Despite the fact that both ministers insist on the quality of the processed meats, they said that complementary studies that cover the whole production and sales process would be conducted, with samples from manufacturing plants as well as retailers.
According to Diario Libre, ProConsumidor director Altagracia Paulino, who kept quiet while the ministers guaranteed the quality of the salamis of the companies with health registries, seemed to be in favor of the new studies, but recommended that the studies follow the same structures that the entity followed in order to prevent distortions.
