Brigades from the Ministry of Public Works have begun to demolish the Jatubey bridge that is at Kilometer 10 on the Duarte highway and say they have orders to finish it as quickly as possible so that a new bridge can be built.
The bridge has had traffic restrictions since the beginning of April this year, causing constant congestion and at least seven people have been killed in accidents. Traffic at that point is detoured to one side of the highway.
The mayor of Juan Romero has said that the holdups on the bridge stretch have also contributed to the increase in robberies of arriving passengers returning from the Cibao International Airport.
