The National Meteorological Office (Onamet) has warned that there will be an increase in rain, electrical storms and wind during the next 24 to 48 hours due to the nearing of Tropical Storm Ernesto, which is 45 kilometers south east of Saint Lucia in the Lesser Antilles. The winds have decreased to 75 kph but a strengthening is expected during the next 48 hours, and Ernesto will be moving into the Caribbean Sea today.

Onamet has said that people should listen to the weather bulletins they will issue about the development of the storm and that residents in high risk areas should take heed of the recommendations of the Emergency Operations Center (COE). While the storm is forecast to pass well south of the Dominican Republic, past experience with track changing storms calls for prudence in monitoring the storms as they move west through the Caribbean.
