US-trained Dominican Felix Sanchez, will be running against a contingent of six competitors from the Americas and only one from the rest of the world. In the race, four athletes are from the Caribbean, three from the United States and a sole host competitor is from Great Britain representing the rest of the world. Javier Culson (Puerto Rico), Jehue Gordon (Trinidad & Tobago) and Leford Green (Grenada) and Felix Sanchez are the Caribbean contingent in the 400m hurdles final. Other competitors are Kerron Clement (USA), Angelo Taylor (USA), Michael Tinsley (USA), and David Greene (GB). The final will be run today, Monday, 6 August at 20:45 London time (3:45pm Dominican time).

Felix Sanchez is the holder of the first Dominican gold medal in Olympics competition, won in the same event in the 2004 Athens Olympics. He enters this race after posting his seasonal best of 47.76, the top time posted by the runners in the event.

IAAF reported on Felix Sanchez in the 400m hurdles race:

"Attention in that race was drawn by 2004 Olympic champion Felix Sanchez all the way from the gun as the Dominican destroyed the field and clocked his fastest time since winning the Athens gold eight years ago! His 47.76 is not only the fastest clocked today it is also the fastest time in the world this year."

The run will be shown on Dominican TV on Channel 8 (Coral TV, Telecable) in Santo Domingo, and Channel 39 in Santiago cable TV. NBC should also carry the run.
