The Department for the Persecution of Administrative Corruption (DPCA) has asked the Justice Department to request coercive measures for the mayor of Cabarete and a former incumbent in the office for embezzlement of funds. The charges involve former mayor Eddy Ramon Morfe de la Cruz and current mayor Gabriel Antonio Mora Ramirez, a.k.a. Canoa. The DPCA wants the judge to impose bail bonds of at least two million pesos each and travel restrictions. The charges include the illegal disbursement of some RD$723,000 to several officials, employees and individuals for the purchase of gasoline and lubricants, and the payment of over RD$3,000,000 to contractors for work that was never done.
