Second heart transplant patient critical

A 52-year old woman who received the Dominican Republic's second heart transplant last week has become depressed and has refused to take her medicines. As a result, her body has tried to reject the transplant and the doctors at the Centro Cardio Neuro Oftalmologico y Transplante (Cecanot) have transferred her to the hospital's Intensive Care Unit. She had been making satisfactory progress and was scheduled for discharge yesterday. However, the patient, who had even received visitors, became depressed on Friday and refused to do her exercises or take her medicine. She just stayed in her bed or in the wheelchair. The doctors told Diario Libre that transplant patients often fall into depression, and psychologists and psychiatrists are treating the patient.
