The National Meteorological Office (Onamet) forecast for today, Thursday 9 August is for continuing rains, although less heavy and frequent than yesterday. The atmospheric conditions are the result of a tropical wave over the center of the country, with the greatest activity over the Caribbean Sea, and moving westwards at some 18 kilometers per hour. The wave caused heavy rains with electrical storms and occasional wind gusts, more frequent and heavy in the northeast, southeast, southwest and the Central Mountains, the center of the country and along the border.

Meanwhile, another tropical wave, located some 2000 kilometers to the east of the Windward Islands of the Antilles, is moving west at 24 kilometers per hour with a 30% chance of becoming a tropical storm within the next 48 hours. The Emergency Operations Center (COE) is keeping seven areas under green alert: Greater Santo Domingo, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, La Romana, San Pedro de Macoris and San Cristobal.
