President Leonel Fernandez has inaugurated the new Reynaldo Almanzar Maternity Hospital and the Hugo Mendoza Pediatric Hospital as part of the Ciudad de la Salud health complex located on Av. Charles de Gaulle in eastern Santo Domingo. The hospitals were built by Carimex at a cost of more than US$110 million.
The Maternity Hospital will have 217 beds and will include neonatal, labor and delivery areas.
Public Health Minister Bautista Rojas Gomez said that the pediatric hospital would have 200 beds, a children's emergency room, burn unit, hematology cancer unit and a bone marrow transplant center.
