The deputy minister of Public Health, Nelson Rodriguez acknowledged yesterday, Thursday 8 August that the number of people affected by dengue in the Cibao region, especially in Valverde province, had increased.
He said that the increase in the number of cases indicated that the Ministry had to increase its vigilance to detect cases early, and proposed an entomological survey to determine the population level of the mosquitoes and carry out fumigations.
He said that they also had to educate the public on water supply management, storage and use.
At the same time, in Mao, Valverde province, 42 people have been hospitalized with symptoms of cholera.
Cases have also been reported in Santiago, where at least 11 children are in the Arturo Grullon Hospital with cholera-like symptoms, and a child from Constanza died as a result of the disease yesterday, Thursday 9 August.
