The telecommunications company Claro has legally notified the local government of San Cristobal that they have to comply with a court ruling made in January, which ordered them to grant the permits requested by Claro to carry out expansion and maintenance projects for their landline and mobile networks.

Claro recently complained that the mayor of San Cristobal was holding up the development of telecommunications in the province, blocking 14 projects worth around RD$50 million from being carried out since 2009.

As part of the legal process, Claro can initiate a civil action if the local government fails to abide by the sentence.

In a note to Diario Libre, Claro has reiterated its concern at the lack of response from the San Cristobal authorities, as it affects the area of San Cristobal and the standard of the quality of service that they can offer their clients there.
