Theater lovers in Santo Domingo have several great choices this weekend. Teatro Las Mascaras presents the contemporary comedy "El resbalon de Julieta" by J. Mathias, starring Karla Hatton, Jorge Santiago, Ana Mercedes Soto, Glennis Vargas and Brian Payano. Performances are on Friday and Saturday at 8:30pm, Sunday at 6:30pm. Teatro Las Mascaras is on Arzobispo Portes 56 in the Colonial City.

Maridalia Hernandez is Dulcinea in the Dominican production of "The Man of La Mancha" to be staged at the National Theater over the weekend of 10, 11, 12 August. The event commemorates the National Theater's 39th anniversary. The legendary Maridalia Hernandez, best known for her days as a vocalist in Juan Luis Guerra's 4x40 band, will play the lead female role in the production of the play by Dale Wasserman based on Don Quijote de la Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes. This production by Fidel Lopez, directed by Maria Castillo, is the Dominican version of the musical that was first staged on Broadway in 1965.

After several weeks of full-house performances, "Brujas" by playwright Santiago Moncada continues at the Sala Ravelo of the National Theater. This Germana Quintana production is being performed on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 August at 8:30pm, and Sunday, 12 August at 6:30pm.

On the east coast, don't miss the DR's top standup comedian Carlos Sanchez on stage at Cap Cana's Pub del Teatro, Ciudad Las Canas, this evening Friday 10 August at 9:30, with live music by Dominican rock legend Tony Almont.
