With 48 hours to go before the end of this administration, officials at the Presidential Palace are packing up their personal items, while other areas of the government's house are now off-limits. In the offices people can be seen loading boxes full of books, photos, and other personal objects. Yesterday morning, Monday 13 August, dozens of men removed boxes for delivery to the houses or private offices of the officials who will leave the administration on Thursday at 10am. From the office of President Leonel Fernandez, they were also carrying away items that belong to the President who has led the country for 12 years, including eight straight (2004-2012). In front of the main staircase leading to the third floor of the Presidential Palace, a sign was placed that says: "No entry until 16 August."

From now until Wednesday, it is expected that the officials will continue removing their belongings. The cleanup and refurbishing of the gardens has not been overlooked, while the offices are being prepared to receive their new occupants (2012-2016). In the meantime, personnel from the Protocol office are working to coordinate everything involved in receiving the new Dominican president.
