According to the State Electricity Company (CDEEE) the two new contracts with Isofoton and Montecristi Solar FV, SAS, will provide the country with 116 megawatts of solar energy and go on line within 15 months. The Isofoton installations will be in La Victoria, in the province of Santo Domingo and the Montecristi installations will be located in the town of Guayubin in the province of Montecristi. The contracts, which have been under discussion since 2011 were approved by the National Energy Commission, the Superintendent of Electricity and were also reported to the Transition Commission of President-elect Danilo Medina. CDEEE executive vice-president Celso Marranzini told El Nuevo Diario that these contracts had gone through all the legal hurdles and processes. The 58MW from the solar farm in La Victoria will be added to the 30MW from Monte Plata's Photovoltaic Park, which is now under construction. These two projects are said to cost US$280 million. Within a few months, the country will have 146 megawatts from solar energy and 77MW from the Los Cocos Wind Farm, giving the country 223MW of renewable energy.
