New trash removal system for Ozama River

The National District city council has announced the installation of equipment and manpower to remove up to 90% of the trash that floats down the Ozama River. The Acero Estrella company will place screens on the pontoon bridge, said Mayor Roberto Salcedo. Municipal workers and Fire Department divers will clean the screens on a daily basis. Urban Cleansing director Oscar Arias told El Caribe that the trash collected would be transported for disposal at the Duquesa landfill.
