The Emergency Operations Center is maintaining its green alert for flooding along the Caribbean coast of the Dominican Republic because of the non-stop rains that have been affecting the area. The alert covers the National District, the province of Santo Domingo, San Cristobal, Peravia, San Jose de Ocoa, Azua, Pedernales, Barahona, Independencia and Bahoruco. Meanwhile the National Meteorological Office (Onamet) has lifted its flood warnings in the cities because the rains will be lighter today.
The Meteorological Office (Onamet) says that the tropical wave that was affecting the country will be beyond the area of their forecasts but there will be brief showers with thunder and lightning in the northeast, southeast, southwest and over the Central Mountains. The forecasters are also watching another system out in the Atlantic, some 2,200 kilometers to the west-northwest of the Cape Verde Islands. Yesterday's rains flooded streets and avenues in Santo Domingo due to the poor drainage systems, causing delays for commuters.
