Yesterday, Tuesday 14 August, President Leonel Fernandez inaugurated the new Essential Medicines Program (Promese-Cal) facilities in the Ciudad de la Salud medical complex at Av. Charles de Gaulle, in Sabana Perdida, Santo Domingo province.
Program director Elena Fernandez said that the new warehouses, which cost US$15 million to build, had been designed to ensure the products were kept in the best storage conditions with best practice.
She said that they fulfilled the medicine and health supply needs for 258 public hospitals, 1,248 primary care units, 433 subsidized pharmacies, 2,305,656 Senasa health plan affiliates, 57 government institutions, 114 AIDS units, 39 non-governmental organizations and 96 church institutions.
Public Health Minister Bautista Rojas Gomez and the director of the Office of Supervising Engineers for State Works (OISOE), Luis Sifres, employees and others also attended the ceremony.
