The transition team coordinator, Ruben Bichara, announced at a press conference yesterday, 14 August that the event would begin at 8am on 16 August with the voting of the presiding bodies of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies.
Half an hour later the guests will arrive at the National Assembly (joint assembly of senators and deputies) for the swearing-in ceremony and the doors will be closed following the arrival of President Leonel Fernandez. The actual swearing-in is scheduled for 10am. The event is expected to finish at noon.
President Danilo Medina and Vice President Margarita Cedeno will then be taken to the Presidential Palace from where the new, closely guarded government cabinet will be announced.
Around 2pm the new President will swear in his new cabinet members and half an hour later, together with his wife, the new First Lady, Candida Montilla and Vice President Margarita Cedeno, will attend Mass at the First Cathedral of the Americas, which will be officiated by Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez.
At 3:30pm they will place a floral tribute on the Altar of the Homeland and two hours later will lead the military parade for the 149 anniversary of the Restoration of the Republic.
The day will end with a cocktail party in the National Palace hosted by the new President and Vice President where the new government heads will receive the congratulations of local and visiting dignitaries.
