Cristian Paredes Aponte, PRD deputy for Sanchez Ramirez (Cotui), says that the legislators should stop being target of public opinion and to do so they should contribute towards the eradication of political patronage. He said that he had asked in the last session held for the Chamber of Deputies, when the Bill for the Regulation of Salaries in Public Administration was approved, the senators and deputies to eliminate the practice of paying people who were not actually working ('botellas') and other types of political patronage.
He said that it was not right to ask the public to tighten their belts for a new fiscal reform, whilst at the same time there were senators who were paying for two or three foundations at their discretion using state money.
He went on to say that legislators should be elected for their proposals and not for zinc sheets and school backpacks they hand out.
